      Sales Assistant Interview

      Sep 7, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Telford, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Telford, England) in Sep 2016

      Interview

Applied online, I thought i was applying for set hours (Thurs-Sat 6am-10am) which were perfect for me and that was the reason i applied, i passed all the online assessments and booked my interview straight away. Firstly i was taken into a room with a lady who asked me to prepare for a role play, using props. She gave me 5 minutes to prepare. Then 'customer' walked through the door and you had to start the role play immediately with the other lady assessing. Then once that had finished, i was told the next person i would see would be the line manager who would ask a few questions. I waited about 10 minutes for her to arrive. She asked me the normal interview questions and was quite straight forward. Once that was over the line manager went out of the room and the other lady came back about 15 minutes after (A lot of waiting) she came back and told me i had been successful, i then had to fill out a few forms and put in my availability, i go to college part time and have a daughter so i put school time hours weds-friday and weekends. Apparently i would be given whatever hours and days they wanted me to work - not the set days that i had originally thought, which was a bit annoying and even though i had been successful they couldn't guarantee that they could give me a job. I was told i would get a call the following day telling me if there were any hours available for me, which there weren't so i they couldn't offer me a job but would keep me on file for the next 12 months. I feel that this was an odd way of doing it and they shouldn't of advertised certain hours that weren't even available and i don't think they should say you've been successful unless they can guarantee you a job.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cumbernauld, Scotland
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Cumbernauld, Scotland) in May 2026

      Interview

The interview itself was very awkward, with no formal start to it from the person that I spoke to. I went into the store and asked the only person who didn't look busy, that person ended up being my interviewer however he didn't tell me that until we sat down in an office and the interview started. It really confused me which I think affected my performance
