The usual pre interview process - applied on line, passed the tests, was sent a slot to apply on line for an interview. The whole process took some weeks as was not able to go for the interview when I initially passed. Arrived at the store. Checked in at Customer services. Somebody came to meet me and take me to the interview room. They told me it would be role play to start and gave fairly obvious hints about what I was required to do and what they were looking for. I was given laminated cards that showed - 1. A store directory 2. Details of a special offer - save £5 if spending £30 on food. 3. A list of foods and alternatives - ham, peppers etc each with a rating beside it of good, neutral, poor - for where it would rate as I substitute I presume 4. Details of a new selection of foods suitable for a special occasion including canapes, starters, main courses, sweets, wines and extras like napkins etc. Also some written details of the fictitious store I was meant to be working in and the role play scenario. I had plenty of time to read all of these and knew from reading other reviews here, that my "customer" was going to be looking for an out of stock item that I would have to find an alternative for.
My "customer" returned and was basically looking for parma ham and red peppers for her mother's visit to customer's new house as it was part of the special dish that was her mother's favourite. Ham out of stock, I offered to call other stores, which she didn't want. Suggested subs from the list, which she wasn't sure of. Then sold her a ready made dish from the new special range that matched mum's favourite and pointed out she wouldn't have to cook, special etc. and threw in the money off deal meaning she could also get starter sweet etc. and get the deal. Told straight away that I had done very well and passed.
Another colleague then came in for the interview part and told me they were set questions and she'd mark as she went along.
