I interviewed for the Christmas Food Customer Assistant. The interview process was super easy and simple, answered basic eligibility questions and did an online scenario/role play "game" and was then offered an interview as soon as I uploaded my passport. The interview itself was fairly straightforward, I read a bunch of people's experiences and interviews and it seems that the Christmas jobs have the same questions.Theyy really want to hear that the customer is always first, and in every answer mention customer service and how to make a customer feel good. They also really want flexibility- you can interview well but if you cannot CONFIDENTLY commit to 40+ hours over the Christmas period then they will not hire you and this is something that was not made aware of me when applying (applied for a role advertised as having 12 hours), you're also unable to have 1-2 days off unless sick leave.
Before the interview, I was asked to walk around the store and find 3 things that could be changed to improve customer experience. For this you need to be the customer, I ended up buying some grapes so that I could experience the start-to-finish experience. Obviously, this will depend on the store, but I went in with some things to look out for and even though I was interviewing for food, I spoke about the food section too because it's the entire store- this wasn't disputed so may be an individual basis but if possible maybe just tailor for your section. I went in looking for accessibility/availability of baskets, mirrors, displays, signage and availability of seating. Again, a few of my points she said were completely valid and good ideas but restricted due to health and safety, so even if you are "wrong" the answer would be accepted.
My interview was around 25 minutes because she was filling out some forms in the room with me and requested that the store manager come in to assess my availability. In terms of what I wore (because I know this will help an anxious girl too) I wore formal suit trousers, a loose jumper and loafers. I'd say go in with an open mind but also somewhat disregard the information in the role description; they truly want full-time staff that can do any type of shift (morning, afternoon or overnights) and whenever between 9-31st December.
