In December 2024, I attended interviews at Marks & Spencer Derby City Centre for three Customer Assistant positions—Food, Café, and Clothing & Home.
For the Food and Café roles, I was initially scheduled to be interviewed by a specific person, but after waiting, a different interviewer took over without introduction. The process felt disorganized, and at one point, he even asked me what a BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) was, despite it being a basic employment requirement. This left a poor impression.
The next day, I arrived on time for my Clothing & Home interview, only to find that the staff were unaware of any scheduled interviews. After multiple people were called, a lady finally told me that no interviews were taking place that day and that the one I had already attended covered all three roles—despite me receiving a separate reminder for this interview. There was no apology, and the experience felt like a complete waste of time, effort, and money.
I’m not upset about not getting the job, but their hiring process was absolutely awful. Overall, both interview experiences were poorly managed, with a lack of professionalism and consideration for candidates. I expected much better from a company like Marks & Spencer.
