I applied online. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer in Jul 2021
Interview
Firstly I had trouble completing the application because of a glitch on the website. I phoned the head office and they were very nice and sorted it for me quickly.
I then had more trouble when I tried to attend my online interview and no interviewer joined the meeting. I phoned the store and no answer. I phoned head office who, again, were nice and emailed the store for me (with no reply).
The next day I was able to get through to the store and they said they would do my interview immediately. It wasn't very convenient for me as I had just got out the shower so my hair was wet and I was dressed casually etc. but I was afraid that if I didn't agree to do the interview at the time that I might not have been able to get another chance.
The actual interview was great and the interviewer was very friendly and chatty. At at the end of the interview I was told I would receive a phone call within a week (not specifying whether I would only be phoned if I got the job or anything).
It has now been a month and no phone call. When I phone the store they ask for my name and number and say they will phone me back but never do. When I asked if no phone call meant I simply hadn't got the job I was told that the recruitment team is disorganised and I could still potentially get offered the job. I also sent an email to the store with no reply.
Overall, even though the actual interview was okay, the lack of communication by the company was really appalling and made me very stressed.

Marks and Spencer
I applied online. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Aberystwyth, Wales) in Dec 2020
Interview
Very simple interview. Asked about availability and previous experience. Most important aspect of customer service etc. No prep needed but they were short staffed and needed to hire someone quickly as another applicant failed the background check. They were therefore mainly interested in my background.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Glasgow, Scotland) in Feb 2020
Interview
Online interview process, selecting different options from a list to describe how I'd respond to a situation. Then invited to in person interview. Group interview with two others in front of would-be line manager. Had to sell an item from the M&S food range, details given on one side of A4. Then one-to-one interview, standard questions.
