I had seven interviews of varying lengths over five weeks and with several people at different parts of the organization using traditional questions in both formal and in an informal environment.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company
Interview
Well thought out and well organized. Very in depth process where the team wanted to make sure the cultural fit was as guaranteed as possible. The cultural fit is important as McKinsey has very specific process and ways of doing business. It has worked for them.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell us about a specific project where you drove a difference, how did you do it and what was the outcome?
Each interview is divided into two main parts:
Case Interview: A 30–60 minute business problem simulation where you and the interviewer work together to develop a recommendation. McKinsey uses an interviewer-led approach, meaning the interviewer guides the discussion and presents questions or data throughout the case.
Personal Experience Interview (PEI): Behavioral questions focused on your past experiences, targeting qualities like leadership, personal impact, entrepreneurial drive, and courage to change. You’ll be asked to share specific stories demonstrating these traits, ideally using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) framework
