      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Michaels (Thornton, CO) in Dec 2017

      Interview

The interview was quick and easy, not a lot of questions were asked. The second time I was called in to bring IDs, I expected some sort of orientation for new hires, such as how to clock in, what the store expected from me. I got taught as I go, which was fine, I have experience in retail so I pick up things fast. However, there is many things that were never disclosed to me during the interview or the follow-up when asking for IDs, such as pay rates and what I was being hired for (part-time, or seasonal), the fact that at the end of your shift you're required to go through a bag check. I never bring a bag in, since I have yet to get my own locker to store it in, and people drink out of my water bottle there, I can't trust people with my things. I still got pulled back despite me not having a bag. The person who interviewed me ask if there was any days I wanted off, I wanted the hours so I didn't care about it. However since they asked me, I asked for new years day off. They specifically told me to go ahead and request it once my account was set up, which I did exactly. Now, since no one really showed me how to request days off, I thought I did it incorrectly. The first time I requested paid time off, which was dumb, I'm a new hire so I shouldn't be getting that to begin with, and it made sense that it got denied. So I tried again but with unpaid time off. I will remind you that the person who interviewed me, told me to do this. Yet the manager of the store came to me clearly upset with my request and gave me a lecture why I couldn't have that day off. I was not angry that I didn't get the day off, I didn't care about it. However it was really unnecessary for them to be upset with me, when I did what the interviewer ask of me. The lack of communication here is really bothersome, to the point where I wasn't in "game plan", thus resulting me missing my breaks.
