      Director of Sales Operations Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Quorum (Washington, DC) in Sep 2020

      Interview

The interview process was very regimented - as communicated to me by the recruiter, Quorum prides itself on treating every applicant equally - this means everyone is allotted the same amount of time, is asked the same questions, and the interviews are conducted using a questionnaire and scoring rubric that determines your advancement. While I understand the intention to create equality in the hiring process, it was somewhat akin to taking a standardized test where knowing the discrete answer is deemed more important than understanding the underlying theory (i.e. knowing the technical differences and considerations between a contact oriented flow vs a lead oriented flow, as opposed to strategically why, how, and when you would use the each object to enable the sales team and understand the quality of sales and marketing efforts). The interview process was stated to be three rounds - an initial screen, one that was technical focused , and then a final round with the hiring manager. I was knocked out after the technical interview, but not given any insight as to why - simply a form rejection letter; I made several outreach attempts to get feedback, but never received a response. For how much they stressed their pride in a transparent process, this might have been the most frustrating part. Throughout the process, my questions about the role were deflected (though were quite effusive on questions regarding the company as a whole) and during the calls they were focused on getting through their questions in the allotted time - this did allow for much context in answers and for any questions I had, I was mostly deferred to the hiring manager interview (which I did not make). From what I could gather during the process, there seemed to be internal conflict regarding whether this was more of a hands on technical role or big picture strategy role. I was disappointed to be knocked out by the technical interview, though I felt it coming - it was one of the cases where within the first couple of minutes, it was easy to tell our personalities did not mesh and the interviewer had made up their mind that I was not going to advance, regardless of my qualifications, answers, or experience. Overall, I felt the interviewer was distracted and that I did not have their full focus - my impression was that they were irritated to have to do the call. If they had stated up front that they were interested in a candidate with technical specialties/certifications as opposed to an operations generalist, I likely would have removed myself from the process.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Quorum (Washington, DC) in Nov 2020

      Interview

The HR contact was extremely detail-oriented, friendly and helpful. She outlined the compensation exactly, and confirmed that there was no negotiation - take it or leave it. The process was very scripted all the way through, I was given the questions that would be asked in advance of each interview, exactly how long each interview would be, and next steps after each call. I first spoke with HR, then someone who would report to me, then the person I would report into, and finally the CEO. The interactions with HR were outstanding and the communication was better than most any process I've been through.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked roughly the same questions by all: 1. What got me interested in applying to Quorum? 2. Describe a previous relevant professional experience that best prepared you for the role 3. Then I was asked a series of technical questions to gauge your skills and experiences. 4. For the final two interviews I was asked about my career aspirations.
