The hiring manager was professional, cordial, and great during the process. I would have loved to work for them. The HR phone screen was great as well. The panel members and other team members I met during the process was great and they all seemed to be bright people. The last interview the hiring manager's manager was pretty appalling and I kept thinking 'am I really sitting here going through this?' I felt like I literally left 1970 upon leaving the interview that day and what I felt had been a great experience thus far quickly diminished. It was an awkward and unnatural conversation and I was asked very non-relevant ego-type questions that were outdated and didn't focus on my skills. As well, this person spoke pretty openly and poorly about their Japanese teammates and counterparts and they seemed to loathe working with them. After spending a total of 8+ hours interviewing, including a final interview round, and meeting onsite a several times, I felt pretty disappointed to receive a canned auto response email to find out they decided to not continue with their offer. After investing that much time and mutual interest up until the very last interview, it would have been more professional to at least call me or at a minimum, acknowledge with a more personal email.
