I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Scheels (Appleton, WI) in Oct 2013
Interview
You first grab an application in-store, and then speak with a Assistant Store Leader for about 5 minutes. They ask you a couple questions, nothing too difficult, and if they like you they ask you to come back and fill out the long application. The long application takes a little more than an hour, if you're good it'll take 45 minutes.(It's Timed) After the Long Application they will call and ask for an interview if you are a good candidate for the job. The interview itself only takes 15-20 minutes.

Interview
I applied online and received a call a couple days later asking a few interview questions and then scheduling an in person interview. I went in two days later and had two interviews. The first with someone in HR and the second with the cashier ASL. They both asked typical interview questions. After my first interview, I was given a test (what they call long form) with basic math and writing. I was given a calculator for the math portion and the writing part is writing a letter to a dissatisfied customer. There is also a list of terms and I had to write how I would fit into those (they’re all the headings from the job description ie. culture, teachability, etc). After that test, I interviewed with the cashier ASL. I was asked very similar interview questions as in the first interview and then I was asked to come back a few hours later. When I came back later, they offered me the position, did a drug test, and sent in my background and credit check.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Scheels (Eden Prairie, MN) in May 2020
Interview
Applied online, got a call shortly after with a few basic interview questions. Then I had a second interview the next week with more basic interview questions. Then they have you take a written test where you do some basic math (with a calculator), write a business style letter, there were a few questions at the bottom about how you would bring certain things to scheels. After that I had a third and final interview in person with more questions, some of these were more specific to me.
I filled out a form and had a short interview with a manager . Managers wear white shirts, called Assistant Store Leaders or ASLs. They called me back a week later. I had another interview and took an aptitude test . The test has writing section, where you're asked to write a letter. It also checks spelling, grammar, basic math, and product knowledge. Some questions I remember were about Merino wool, Gore-Tex, types of guns and ammo, etc. I think it's to determine what department you should work in for sales. I was hired a few days after that.
