I interviewed with the manager at my store very casually before being offered the job on the spot. Most people will go through a recruiter however. I've gone through a rehiring process in which I had to talk to a recruiter and it wasn't intimidating or anything. He was very friendly but I can't say what it would be like for a new person in the company.
