I’ve had 2 terrible experiences with OCC through two different avenues. It’s no wonder there is a 56% interview approval rating. This role is in Chicago, IL
1) I applied through a recruiter. I had 1 interview and then they never replied back after 20 business days. I’m pretty sure they forgot about me as a candidate entirely. They never rejected me but never responded. It turns out OCC altered the requirements of the job description mid interview process which ended up disqualifying me.
2) I applied directly through an internal referral. They emailed me about their target pay. I replied back asking a few clarifying question as their salary range had two ranges (a bit confusing) I also said I was flexible. I received an automated rejection. I replied to the email asking if it was about the pay. They said they can speak to me the next day on the phone. I provided availability and they never replied back.
The next day without replying to my email, the they called me in the morning and proceeded to say “You don’t want this, pay is too low at $xxx, xxx (the number shared on the phone was $7k beneath the target salary they emailed me the day before)” I replied, “that’s a very reductive opinion to have, I said via email that I was flexible”.
2) They very condescendingly continue to explain how salary ranges works and “that’s how corporate works, honey. We don’t do top dollar. ” (I have 10 years of corporate experience, I do know how negotiations and salary ranges work just not salary ranges with 2 max values).
3) They say I have no experience in Finance (I do).
4) They say I have no experience in derivatives (it wasn’t in the job description as a job requirement or preference).
5) Call ended saying that they will pass along my resume to someone else. (I haven’t heard back and I’m pretty sure this the 4th lie I’ve heard from this person).
45 minutes later, the same person replies to my email about setting up time to discuss at 11:00 (it’s 11:05 so it’s already 5 minutes late). I emailed saying that I’d be happy to discuss. Have there been any updates from our conversation earlier in the day? They replied that there has been no update. There’s been no update since. Clearly, they doesn’t remember speaking me on the phone and likely doesn’t remember candidates.
They doesn’t know how to read resumes where I list out the financial clients I worked for in (yes, corporate) consulting. They fail to read emails proper where I clearly stated that my pay is flexible.. Finally, they asked “you don’t want this. Do you want this?”. It is shocking that they are discouraging prospective employees!
I know there is a large project coming up for this company. If ^this negative behaviors continues, OCC will not build up the internal team that they need to complete this transformation. It will cost OCC millions of dollars paying for consultants at 3x the pay to get the work down in the expected timeline.
