I applied online. I interviewed at Triplebyte in Apr 2017
Interview
Online test, then 2 hour phone screen. I'm told some candidates are asked to complete a take-home quiz.
Online test: quite interesting and difficult, it asks a few simple coding questions (in this code sample, what is the value of x?) in many different languages. Then it asks a few situational questions (if you need to scale this web-server, what would you do?). Strongly biased towards generalists / full-stack web engineers who know a lot of languages (then again, those engineers seem to be in the most demand), and probably more passable if you read HN / know a lot about backend web engineering.
Phone screen: some short answer / situational questions, build several projects in a language of your choice (such as a game), debugging a project they send you, and a few others (all described in other glassdoor reviews). Moderate difficulty, no bad questions here - almost everything was relevant to my job.
The interview process is open to all types of software engineers, but I doubt an embedded system engineer could pass it - it's heavily weighted towards web engineers. Getting to skip phone screens for these companies is awesome, and it means they are usually pitching you rather than the other way around.
Fill out quiz and then taking coding interview. Fully automated followed by connects you to companies to have further discussions and further technical interviews. Very straightforward process. Accepted offer from one of the companies i interviewed with.
I applied through other source. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Triplebyte
Interview
Skipped straight to onsite because of Triplebyte profile.
Onsite was very organized. Three coding challenges (frontend, backend, CLI game), one architecture, one product, one leadership. Respectful and well managed overall. Pretty hard tech interviews.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Build command-line Tetris in the language of your choice (scoped down for the interview, not the full game of course)
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Triplebyte (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2021
Interview
Decently fun. there was a pre screening multiple choice test followed by a 2 hr phone call interview. the tasks included debugging, coding tetris, general knowledge questions. The interviewer made the experience pleasant enough.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
program tetris, describe network protocols, describe relational database concepts
