I excitedly applied for an operations job with Uncommon Schools. I was contacted via email later that same day-- they let me know that they actually had just filled that position and were in the process of taking down the listing; however, they had another similar position that they thought I'd be a good fit for and wanted to know if I'd be interested in hearing more info. I was very excited about this and of course agreed to the follow up conversation.
After a scheduling error on my interviewer's part our original conversation had to be rescheduled. Other than that it went off without a hitch-- it was an informal phone call that gave me a lot of information about the role and organization. I felt great about what I had heard and at the end of the call the person I spoke with asked if I would be interested in the position because she'd love to set up a more official and formal phone interview. I was definitely interested so we set up a call for a few days later. That formal interview went great. I was told that they would get back to me soon if they were interested. A couple of days later I got an email letting me know they were excited about me as a candidate and wanted to pursue an in person interview. I was told I'd be getting an additional email with "next steps" very soon. Sadly, that did not happen.
After a couple of weeks passed with no update, I reached out by email again. I was told again that they were very excited about me as a candidate and wanted to have me come up and interview in person, but this was "the busiest time of the year" and so it was taking a little longer than anticipated. I was thanked for my patience. After several back and forth emails I was told they'd be reaching out soon with more information about scheduling that last interview step. They asked about my availability and told me they would aim for the beginning of November for me to come in. I went three more weeks without an update this time.
I finally decided to reach out. When I did, I got no response. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I decided the lack of response could be due to the approaching holidays and I waited another week and a half before reaching out. When I reached out, again, I got no response. Several weeks later, I have still gotten absolutely no communication from them.
I was once very excited about this organization and opportunity but after more than three months of being led on then ignored my first impressions have changed. I had stopped pursuing other opportunities because this one seemed like "the one" and all communication with them seemed as if it was all but certain until it completely stopped.
I'm a reasonable person. I understand if something with the position changed, or if they decided to go in a different direction-- but not communicating that with me, continuing to fain interest, and then ignoring me altogether is completely unacceptable. I was "ghosted" by this company and I do not recommend interviewing with this organization. And, they lost a really committed and excited potential employee.
