I received an email from the hiring manager and had an interview scheduled within the same week. Interview/conversation went well and I followed up with a thank you email.I didn’t receive a reply after sending the thank you letter and after of not hearing back after 3 weeks followed up and still didn’t receive a reply. Its one thing to not reply back my thank you letter but to not respond to my follow up was unprofessional especially considering the manager told me he would have updates within a week or so from my interview. A day later I received a rejection update from a generic email. At least I wasnt ghosted but I feel its a professional courtesy to reply back to candidates even if the conversation might be difficult. If I was working with recruiters then I could understand the generic email but corresponding directly with the hiring manager during the whole process then to getting the cold shoulder was cowardly. I have also heard the hiring process varies between departments despite their website outlining it as more uniformed.
