      HRBP Interview

      Apr 21, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Manchester, NH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Velcro (Manchester, NH)

      Interview

Applied on-line, received a call from a recruiter. Did recruiter phone screen, then did another phone interview with the hiring manager (HM) who right away told me this was her "old job and how hard it will be to let go of it" (RED FLAG) Then, I got a call a few weeks later, told me (not asked me) that they wanted me to come in to interview at X time on X day with multiple people and two other "finalists". (No asking "When can you come in to interview? Give me a few times you are available") I re-arranged my very busy work schedule to accommodate Velcro's only time slot provided and went in for the interview. Was met by a cold & unfriendly receptionist and sat down in a waiting area with the other candidate for this role (we knew each other - HR is small world) Interviewed for about two hours with various hiring managers. After my interview, I followed up with my thank you notes, received nothing from Velcro (not even an acknowledgement of my email) for a few weeks. I emailed recruiter to find out if any next steps after nothing for two weeks, then got a "we will contact you if we want to move forward" abrasive email from recruiter. Then got a phone message on a Friday afternoon that they wanted me back in the following week at a specific time (no other options again) on X day. I re-arranged my whole work schedule to accommodate Velcro again. I had a tour of the floor, met w/another manager, then met w/the HM and other HR person for another hour. Felt they were not prepared. Had NO questions for me, just asked me what questions I had. Luckily I had a list. They actually appeared bored, and really didn't want to be there (the HM didn't seem to want to be there especially when she mutters under her breath "here we go again" as we walked into my interview). The HM left the room to handle something and it seemed my interview was done as the other HR person walked me out. Saw the HM as I was walking out and she said she would want me to talk to the head of their team ( head of legal?) on the phone. Then- NOTHING. Three weeks go by. I reached out to the hiring manager, no response not even a courtesy "we are still interviewing people" OR "Sorry we picked someone else". Nothing. No response. I reached out to old co-worker who is at the company (I used to work w/him at another company) to see if he heard anything as I wasn't hearing from anyone. I get a very nasty, quick, email telling me 'not to contact HR people" at their company. Then an hour later, I get a "no" email from recruiter. I will say, I've been in HR and recruiting for 20 years. I have NEVER had such a poor experience with ANY company. I am SO GLAD I didn't get the job - whoever promoted the HM is nuts, no one (I have heard that the other 2 finalists had the same experience as me) would want to work for her, she is territorial and jealous and obviously threatened by other HR people because I know one of the women who interviewed for this job would run circles around the HM. I wonder if the CEO or "Head of Legal" knows how badly HR is treating people who interview here ?? Terrible experience and I have never made a point to review an interview or a company before. Velcro takes the cake.
