One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a recruitment process.
I interviewed twice with Vertiv in July and early August for a position based in Bologna. The HR team managing the process was from Vertiv Romania and this role required relocation. I was completely fine with this and eager to move forward for Bologna. The first interview was with HR, and the second was with the IT Director, both of which went very well. The interviewers were professional, and the conversations were positive. However, the handling of the process by HR was nothing short of a disaster.
To start, both interview dates were delayed, with late responses from HR to confirm or reschedule. After the second interview, I was told to wait for feedback, and the IT Director was very encouraging. A week passed with no updates, so I reached out. They said there were no updates yet. I followed up again two weeks later—still no updates. I waited a full month, emailed again, and was then informed that the Hiring Manager was on vacation until early September, but I would hear back soon.
I waited another two weeks, emailed again, and this time received an automatic response saying the HR contact was now on vacation until mid-September. At this point, I contacted my first interviewer (the only person who was responsive throughout) and was informed she had been promoted and was no longer involved, but she gave me a new HR contact in Romania. When I reached out to this new person, she apologized, explaining that the Hiring Manager had changed and there had been some missing information about my application. She promised to discuss with the second interviewer and get back to me as soon as possible.
Despite her assurances, I followed up three times after that, but she never responded, and neither did the original HR contact. I even considered changing my flight to relocate to Bologna for this position, but all they did was waste my time.
As a final insult, when I checked my application status on Vertiv’s career portal, I found that they had deleted my application entirely. The system said, “We couldn't find this email. Check the spelling and try again.” It felt like a very disrespectful joke.
I would have been fine with a rejection, even after two positive interviews and completing an assessment, but instead, they chose to ghost me after repeatedly promising updates. This was by far the worst application process I’ve experienced, and I hope this comment reaches someone who can address the unprofessionalism of their HR team. Vertiv is an international company, but this level of unprofessionalism is shocking.
