I had a phone interview with one of the most unprofessional recruiters I've ever come across - and that's saying something. Aside from sounding like a chain-smoking carnie, she directly asked me how much I was making; I politely deflected by saying that I earn a competitive, market-rate salary. Her response was to groan then bark, "Ugh, just tell me what you are making!..." And it only got worse from there. I feel bad for the management at Xero, it seems like an interesting company and then they have this individual chasing off sane candidates.
Sorry that your experience with the recruiting team wasn't as expected. We did ask the recruiters to screen candidates for this position based on compensation in addition to skills because there was a very wide range in candidate pay and expectations.
