IPG Photonics has its name in lights. The company makes fiber-optic signal amplifiers, fiber lasers, laser diodes, and pump lasers, which are primarily used in materials processing. Its fiber lasers also have applications in medicine and in telecommunications networks to enable voice and data transmission over optical lines, among other uses. The company's customers have included BAE SYSTEMS, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Nippon Steel. Deriving about 80% of its sales outside North America, IPG Photonics operates sales offices in more than 10 countries, including Germany, Russia, Italy, and China.
