Pros

Experience and people, not much more to say. I worked with fine folks. I didn't like the long hours, the uninteresting busy work, and the terrible customers. That said, this job provided a jumping off point to bigger and better things. You don't need an advanced education or much, if any experience. They're training program is excellent and renowned in the industry. Take the opportunity to learn, to pad your resume, and improve your skills such as customer service, merchandising, and cash handling.

Cons

Long hours, rude customers, low pay.

Pros

If you get a good direct report, this can be a good company to work for.

Cons

Most middle management is poor and the 'good old boys' network is strong. So you end up with leaders that promote on who been there the longest and kisses the butt the best, not who has talent or skills. The middle management is nothing more than a bunch of re-treads that they move from one position to another to keep from having to fire them for poor performance. They only way to advance is to goto West Point, then you get a golden ticket to the top, even if you have no experience, leadership or people skills. This is who you will be working for, a stuffed shirt who think he know everything because he drove a tank with little gold bar on his shirt in the desert, that talks down to you all day and constantly reminds you that you did not go to West Point and will not be as good as him. Great place to get experience, but do not count on it for a career, because they reserve those for flunkies and West Point Grads.

Pros

It is easy to work at 7-eleven as a clerk. You have to do some cleaning, and restocking, but other than that, it is pretty easy. The pay is okay, but isn't great. It's usually about minimum wage, but may be more. The pay is low, but you aren't really doing a lot of work, so it is okay. Most 7 Eleven's are open 24 hours, so if you want to work night shift, that is a good option. The shifts are usually 7 am to 3 pm and then 3 pm to 11 pm and then 11 pm to 7 am. I think that the 3 pm to 11 pm is a good shift.

Cons

It can be very boring, and is a little dangerous. There are no benefits, like health insurance or dental or eye care. Also, no paid days off. Also, if they don't like you, they can fire you and quickly have someone to replace you. Another downside, is that some people look down on convenience store clerks, because it requires almost no education and does not pay very well. This can be frustrating, if you're not getting any respect from your friends and family. Also, cleaning can be disgusting sometimes. You get gloves though. Overall, it is not a bad job though.
