Pros

AAPC grew from a sleepy professional association to a major force in the health care information industry in the decade I was there thanks to a can-do culture. Staff continue to brew an exciting mix of services for health care professionals. It's a great place to work for those with families, as the work/family balance is amazing. Dress code is relaxed, and the organizational structure is pretty informal. New approaches and media are rewarded. And the organization's members can be the best part of the job. A soup/salad/sandwich bar and workout room are provided to employees who wish to use them. Many employees telecommute from various places outside of Utah and the culture and technology make interactions seamless.

Cons

The work place is a bit dreary. Like many innovative companies, AAPC is in a converted warehouse and the limited palette of color and a paucity of windows can affect energy levels.

Pros

Despite fluctuations in the reimbursement industry, this company continues to provide a gathering place for professionals in our space. It's impressive how, despite internal and external changes, AAPC employees continue to focus on making members' professional lives easier. The work environment is very flexible, and there is a not-very-rigid organizational structure. Ingenuity is prized. Staff is encouraged to devise new products and programs for members, and failure is seen as an opportunity to learn rather than a career-ending act. Unlike most professional organizations, AAPC is very quick to respond to members' needs. The facility is ascetic and the total number of FTEs small, but that keeps members' costs low. This is great place if you come from the coding profession or non-profit spaces. Thanks to its values, it's also a great place if you are tired of working for a greedy, publicly traded company.

Cons

Very little career growth possible for most employees; what you come in as, you'll stay. Benefits can't be comparable to larger companies in the revenue management space because of its size.
