Pros

Great people, laidback, no micromanagers, passionate ppl, professional development possibilities

Cons

Salary is very low for the Washington DC Metro region and there is very little room for negotiation. You can ask for a spot bonus but they may say no. Once you are in, to move up "get promoted" you will most likely need to leave the department you are in and HR is only allowed to give you a 10% increase in your salary.

Everyone is overpaid, which is pretty great.

Pros

AARP has great benefits and will definitely overpay you.

Cons

There is very little continuity in the organization. If you’ve worked at the organization for 30 years you are able to “eliminate” another’s position because they don’t like you - despite consistently positive performance reviews and good standing with others throughout the organization. Also, if you don’t know how to open a pdf and are not required to use a computer to do your job then you should probably not be responsible for managing anyone.
