IT has poor structure. IT is fragmented into several different depts which makes it difficult to know who to contact (the dept. that is called IT? The dept. that is called IRT? The dept. called LELA? who do I contact?!?!!?). If you contact the wrong dept. you rarely get sent to someone that can actually help you. The dept that is actually called IT is the most helpful and seem to be the most knowledgeable. From what I hear most of the IT folks don't share their knowledge and it ends up being select pockets of people who know how things are set up (no going to someone else if you can't get along with one person).
In addition to that HR will not allow you to get a pay increase if you further your education or get certifications. There are no real raises at ACC after you are hired (aside from blanket "cost of living" increases or "market studies"). This causes everyone with the same title to be paid EXACTLY the same. I was told I could quit and apply for the job I just quit from and I would get paid more. WHY?!?!?! That is so stupid. HR is typically the punching bag but in this case they deserve it.
