Pros
I loved my time at ACC, mostly due to working with excellent students, teachers, and department. I found it rewarding, especially working with low income students and feeling like I was making a difference in their lives. Relaxed pace. Job security and flexibility. Excellent compensation for salaried faculty. BTW, because everyone is a public employee, you can find actual salaries via searching the internet.
Cons
For anyone who isn't salaried faculty: You're working for the state and it feels like it. People stick around and get comfy, lazy, and apathetic. The progressive discipline policy makes it virtually impossible to change poor behavior. There's a lot of folks doing other people's work in order to make things run. Most of these folks are paid extremely poorly, making it hard to attract good candidates. They say that if most folks were the boss for a day, they'd give themselves the day off. ACC is no different and if you work there, you will likely have the opportunity to be an unrepentant slacker with no consequences. I would NOT recommend ACC to anyone who has a tendency to do more than what's expected. You will not be compensated and you can do more good for people elsewhere in Austin. You're essentially taking a pay cut for incredible job stability and flexibility. I was not an adjunct but I think there are some very shady practices in paying adjuncts and lack of health benefits. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen... Also my department was really positive and awesome but some departments are completely disfunctional and there's simply nothing to be done except wait for people to retire...
