Pros

Very flexible schedule. Good pay. Lots of room for growth.

Cons

Lonely. The commute can be awful. If you don't get along with your supervisor, then that can be a huge issue.

Pros

Flexible schedule. Great for students. Friendly atmosphere. Promotes from within. Not cheapskates (everyone is provided with an iPad to use for the duration of employment).

Cons

Difficult to achieve full time. Split schedule likely. May have an AM client and a PM client with a few hours in between, which means you may set aside an entire day for work but only work and get paid for a few hours. A lot of travel. Must be comfortable working in other people's homes (conditions vary).

Pros

Awesome kids and families, people move up and get promoted, flexible schedule (set your schedule), pretty diverse caseload to help you gain experience working with a variety of abilities, challenges, and personalities. Bonuses like iPhones and gas cards, bonuses for employee referrals, Support to help you work through difficulties with families when they occur. Social skill groups, winter/summer break camps. Great job for someone single or childless, or looking to get hours towards a professional license, Good teamwork amount coworkers, if you're not sure how to approach a skill your client needs to learn, at least 3 of your coworkers has run into that situation and can give you ideas on how to address it.

Cons

The technology sucks. The timekeeper gets things wrong and you have to take extra time to make sure your hours are corrected, the vacation/time off app doesn't work sometimes, not enough sick time, not enough paid holidays, meetings don't get deducted from your billable expectations so you have to make those 3-5 hours up per month, driving a lot, and while not ACES fault, the autism field isn't able to keep up with the demand. When my clients lost staffing (many therapists go back to school- yay!) and we didn't have enough staffing to replace the therapist who left, my clients had long waits to get restaffed, also when they called around to other agencies they were told it would be a long wait. Not a good work/life balance, many late nights and weekends. Managers told me work rarely interferes with their personal life but I'd receive emails at all hours of the night. Scheduling tries to get people regionalized but you're still driving a lot.
