A place for frightened oldies

Pros

office looks good from outside but what is inside is a nightmare

Cons

old employees afraid of losing their job causing massive lethargy and poor morale in employees who are slapped in their wrist for showing enthusiasm for learning or giving ideas. Old technology, old way of doing everything and the management prefers it that way. Offshore has completely taken over the work load leaving onshore insecure, frightened of lay-offs. One can die of boredom here.

Pros

ADP is great about promoting people within. They treat those who work hard and succeed well, offering incentives, including cash, trips, benefits, pay increases, stock....to achievers. They definitely know how to use incentives to hold on to top talent. There are many avenues within the company for upward mobility and cross business unit moves. From what I know of competitors from friends who've left ADP, the pay & potential is much better here. ADP offers the top products and services, which makes me proud to sell for them.

Cons

It's a difficult place to work in that it is a very demanding high-pressure environment. It is not easy to find opportunities within the company, even though they are definitely there. You have to assert yourself beyond local management to make sure you are considered and aware of opportunities. Things are constantly changing - sometimes in a very big way - at ADP. You have to be able to adapt and not hold on to old ways. Whatever the current flavor, you have to drink the koolaid to succeed. For Sales the issues with implementation and service make the job more challenging, but those are temporary. They are already making moves to create a better experience for the customers. Don't come work here for an easy salary. If that's your goal, this is not the place for you.

Dysfunctional culture and poor leadership

Pros

Great people and interesting projects but very poor management and even worse leadership. People want to do the the right thing but they are shot down by senior managers who lack knowledge of the details of running daily operations

Cons

Rank matters way too much here. No cultural diversity at all. Too much fear leads to poor decisions. Way too much politics. Managers are out of touch with the day to day operations
