Pros

-Build relationships with amazing kids and their families, often working with them and then their siblings year after year -Coworkers are fun, supportive, and helpful -Team leaders and mentors are always ready to help when needed, but I am trusted to manage my own stuff and not micromanaged -Set my own schedule -Management is extremely supportive in the case of tricky client situations, which are uncommon but inevitable. As long as you are doing your job they will 100% have your back -Yes the pay is lower than if you just offered tutoring on Craigslist, but I don't have to find my own clients, deal with any accounting, or handle the occasional challenging client on my own. The hourly rate is competitive -Coworkers are passionate and enthusiastic, creating an office atmosphere of fun and learning -Lots of training provided and opportunities to branch out into tutoring classes well beyond whatever classes you start out tutoring -Easy to stand out and get raises if you are communicative with clients and tutor well -There is an inherent work/life balance challenge, but if you set reasonable boundaries they will be respected. I've never felt pressured to respond to emails or calls at all hours -Management is transparent about state of the company and how to move up, at least in comparison to other places I've worked -Management asks for employee feedback frequently and is good about considering and implementing feedback -WAY more fulfilling than the corporate grind

Cons

-Upon hiring it can take a bit of time to get a full schedule -Tutoring hours have ups and downs throughout the year due to school schedule (though you can get more hours with other work such as projects, and hours are more consistent if you take on more leadership responsibilities)

Pros

Good tutors and some nice snacks

Cons

Management doesn't care at all about employees and is run by very male-dominated, sexist people.

Pros

-Lots of training and support from your team leader, coworkers, and department heads -Will often be working with well established clients ('warm' leads) -Transparent leadership structure and clear communication about company news -Get reimbursed for admin time, gas, and a small phone stipend -Didn't use it but there are benefits available if that applies to you -Scheduling is very much on your own terms (within reason with the client) -Weekly meetings with your team leader provides a consistent opportunity to communicate feedback, receive feedback, collaborate on solutions, and mentor ship -Offices (when they're open again) are pleasant, stocked with snacks, and located in prime real estate -Company took initiative to move to online learning before shutdowns happened and retained 2/3 of clients -You can get paid more for specific categories of tutoring (like test prep) and good clients will often come to you for additional services -You are provided with everything you need: laptop, school materials, textbooks, etc -Don't have to worry about cold calling clients or finding your own as all prospective inquiries go through client services; this is where the reputable reputation of AJ really comes into play -You'll be tutoring 1 on 1 99.9% of the time unless you're a test prep group class tutor -Very transparent in how you can advance at the company such as pathways to management, admin, sales, new subjects, etc

Cons

-This job requires you to be comfortable with phone communication which can be scary for newcomers or Gen Z people like me who are used to texting BUT it's a big reason why AJ can establish close relations with clients -Hours can be slow to ramp up when you are starting out; clients are assigned based on their location pref and their specific needs so other tutors may get clients before you do though this is something you can bring up to your team leader if you feel it's a persistent issue. -The company relies heavily on everyone's ability to utilize the CRM software and billing software. This means you need to be on top of recording session details, grades, ccing emails. If you are new, then this job can be an excellent introduction to how CRM works. As clients are often working with multiple tutors, it's vital to keep the CRM updated for everyone's reference. You WILL be called out if you are not consistent in this but anyone with experience in any sort of data entry will find this task trivial. -There are winter and spring reviews where you are given a score out of 10. As long as you have done the basics of the job, you will do well here. I've never had a bad review when I was working here but I can imagine this could be a con for someone. -LOSING CLIENTS CAN REFLECT BADLY ON YOU ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS AN ESTABLISHED CLIENT. This is where communication and what you've put into the CRM matters!!!! Clients leave for all sorts of reasons but the responsibility is on you to justify why they left!! If you've been communicating with your team leader in the weeks leading up to the exit, tagging emails, and logging details then you're clear but God help you if you haven't been keeping on top of things. The worst thing that can happen is that a client complains you're incompetent. -You will be expected to push additional services as you become more experienced -Company was experiencing some hardship as a result of COVID-19 -Remember, you're upholding the reputation of the company
