Pros

-Streamlined application/hiring process. -Flexible hours. -Snacks in office. -Good way to gain experience tutoring.

Cons

-I had difficulty getting as many hours as I wanted throughout my time at AJ Tutoring. I don't think it would have been financially sustainable for me to stay in this job for another year, let alone long-term. -I felt there were many times in which I was expected to do work that I was not getting compensated for (e.g. talking with parents outside of sessions often took much longer than the small amount of "administrative" time that I was budgeted). -Minimal community within the company/offices.

Pros

-- Flexible Hours -- Smart, dedicated students -- Nice offices -- Free coffee and snacks -- Owner Joe sometimes buys you lunch ;)

Cons

Working with High School students requires working evenings and/or weekends, but that comes with the territory as a Tutor.

Pros

Their SAT tutor training is fantastic, and the other tutors are all fun, interesting people. You generally don't spend that much uncompensated time doing administrative things. The owners and higher-ups will handle tricky or difficult parent interactions with you, or coach you on what to do, which is really helpful.

Cons

I worked here as an academic tutor rather than an SAT tutor, which was a very sink-or-swim situation. I, unfortunately, sank - they assigned me to tutor subjects somewhat outside of my area of expertise, promised training, and then didn't actually train me before giving me students. Retention and promotion are based almost entirely on student evaluations, and I understandably got a few bad ones at the beginning, which pretty much ruled out any advancement - they have enough tutors in the pipeline that they don't really need to give second chances. They gave me a couple more students over the course of an academic year, then cut me loose.
