Pros

Unbelievable support from team leaders, mentors, and department heads from the time you're hired until you leave. Great team atmosphere cultivated by leadership on down, encourages everyone to support each other and seek out colleagues. Highly intelligent and passionate tutors make going to work and interacting with team members exciting and rewarding. Opportunity to build great and lasting relationships with students, parents, and fellow AJ team members. Opportunities to expand content knowledge and teaching skills , as well as for career advancement.

Cons

The hours can be difficult sometimes (working after school into the evenings, on weekends), but you get to set your own schedule so you can manage it effectively. Some parents are tough to deal with but that's life. Can't think of a real negative to working at AJ.

Pros

The company is actually invested in helping students improve and succeed! Good hourly rate, solid benefits if you can get your average up to 25 hours/week. Team members are fun to work with. Eclectic mix of personalities.

Cons

Work-life balance sucks. Many meals skipped due to scheduling with students. Business is practically dead for 3 months out of 12. Not a lot of advancement opportunities. Hard to get health insurance as a first-year, because it takes time to acquire the client base. Sometimes feels like you need to be a salesman, rather than a private tutor.

Pros

The students were great to work with, but then again I was only given a few. The company does some great community outreach in the area.

Cons

My team leader hardly ever assigned students to me even though I told her this was my only job. And then I find out that management give the students to Team Leaders and Veteran Tutors first before the new tutors like me. It's evident, specially in social gatherings, that this company has formed elite cliques internally and have left out the new employees. After all, the new tutors will be gone by next year anyways. If you are a new hire, expect to leave after the school year is over. This company will starve you to death during the summer months.
