Pros

Being an EMT for AMR in Seattle is probably one of the most rewarding private ambulance positions in the country. As with other private ambulance jobs it's just you and your partner for twelve hours. No boss breathing down your neck! Just run the calls they give you. Also EMTs with AMR Seattle get patients of a much higher acuity then other places. Chest pain, respiratory distress, significantly altered level of consciousness etc. AMR also has the only FEMA contract awarded to private ambulance. You could be part of a disaster response team deployed to hurricanes, and other disasters.

Cons

Be prepared to work LONG hours. Shifts are 12 hours long but be ready to put in 13-14 especially if the dispatchers don't like you! Pay is low, starting at 13. So if you have a family or real bills you'd better be on board for some serious overtime. Most employees with families are working 60-72 hours a week to make ends meet.

Pros

In our office the flexibility on having to go to Dr.'s appointments for my kids is good. My direct manager is fine but burnt out.

Cons

Where do I start! Everyone that is not Senior Management is overworked. Don't even think you will get a Thank You it is expected and if you don't your job is in Jeopardy. The politics in this place is insane the "in-fighting" is normal and if you don't play the office politic game then you will not get anywhere in your career. The moral is non existent due to everyone trying to back stab one another. No one truly trusts anyone.

Pros

You can get your work experience if you want to go on to becoming a paramedic, nurse, fireman, etc. They give a ton of over time.

Cons

Always working over your shift hours. Send you on call after call, after call with no break. Your lunch constantly gets cut short for a call. Ive worked 10 hours before getting a lunch break before. They will fire you for anything they can. They constantly hire people when they dont need them and then lay them off. Poor management.
