A great place to work

Pros

In my experience, it's rare that you can work at a company where so many people are passionate about the mission. AOPA feels like that rare company and the passion is general aviation. Although not every employee is a pilot, the employees buy-in to the mission of protecting pilots' right to fly. The benefits AOPA offers are excellent--besides the usual medical, dental, etc., the company has aircraft that pilot employees can fly at no cost and, for those employees who are not pilots, the company will cover the cost of flight training. The dress code is casual, there are a lot of fun employee events like ice cream socials and Halloween parties, there's an on-site cafeteria that the company subsidizes, and employees are recognized for their achievements. My colleagues are wonderful to work with and I look forward to coming into work every day.

Cons

Because it's a smaller company, the opportunities to move to different areas within the organization may be somewhat more limited than at much larger companies.

Pros

AOPA has provided opportunities for me to learn alongside of some of the best people I have met. As a result, I have been able to advance accordingly. They invest in their employees and have excellent benefits, including wellness and flexible work schedules. Team members who desire to learn to fly are able to do so! Current leadership has the organization focused on growing the pilot population and ensuring the future of the industry.

Cons

I have none, quite happy.

Pros

Great benefits- good balance between aviation-passionate personnel who wholeheartedly support & push for GA programs and locals who provide solid admin. The CEO, Fuller, has been a tremendous asset to GA and obviously truly cares about the mission- though morale is low knowing he's leaving soon.

Cons

In complete agreement w/other poster about promotions; those who go above & beyond are equalized regardless of experience or superiority in knowledge and responsibility- except pretty little blondes, brown-nosers and those who hang-out in the 'smokers corner' with the 'boss down in the corner' quickly figure out how to play this guy, but will still only get so far before they are clamoring to get out of his department or leave altogether.
