Like most outfitters, it’s run by good ole boys. The company is mismanaged, has high turnover, and toxic culture among coworkers. The disrespect that I have witnessed and experienced is shocking. Many of the senior guides are rude to customers and boldly take risky maneuvers on the river.

Ava exploits contract work by paying per trip - often leading to below minimum wage pay for your first season. Noone expects to become rich being in the outdoor industry, however it should not take living in a car, working 10 hr days, being on a days notice for trips, and having no guaranteed pay for last minute cancellations in order to save a couple thousand dollars after 5 months of dangerous, hard work.
