Pros

Before the company took over/merged, it was a great place and folks were proud to work for the company as well go the extra mile to ensure the customers needs were taken care of. Benefits and pay were decent but that was about it.

Cons

Before AVI-SPL merged with Sharps AV, they were a great company and could see potential but as soon as they merged, they kept all the staff from sharps and the ones who were AVI either quit or we moved out of the company. The Canadian operation of AVI-SPL is now just Sharps AV 2.0. Their training for new jobs is a bit of a joke with no time to train new employees or ones that have been transferred into new roles, it was a sink or swim type of mentality and don't expect for any real training or assistance. Expect to be thrusted into a lot of meetings which you then have to try and catch up on your work. Long hours.

Pros

All in all, a pleasant enough work environment. I rarely had an issue with a co-worker. Benefits package was above average by current standards. Local management was understanding as regards vacation and personal time off. Got a pair of nice, new workshirts with the co. logo embroidered on them every 18 months or so.

Cons

Little to no room for career growth outside of technical positions. Field offices are desperately understaffed. Salaries not commensurate with management's performance expectations. Raises are basically non-existent. Performance appraisals are infrequent and slip-shod. In-house training program is abysmal. Their vaunted program consists of first-come/first-serve, vendor supplied classes. Company would rather hire from the outside than train and promote from within. Difficult to transfer across department lines, ex. office admin to engineering services, tech to sales, etc. Invariably, field offices are located in less than desirable neighborhoods. In lieu of maintaining adequate staffing levels, all employees are expected to "cover" the gaps, and perform duties outside of their job description, responsibility and ability.
