Pros

This company has been very good to me, so when I saw the reviews posted on this site I felt compelled to write something. I should note that I am currently employed at AccessLex, but management is not aware I am writing this, nor do I work in marketing at any capacity. First let’s talk about benefits, which there are many when working for this company. The health benefits are second to none. We have the Cadillac of health plans. Not having to worry about prescription cost or Dr. visit costs this day and age is a tremendous benefit, one that I do not think I can sufficiently describe here. Since I have been here, I cannot think of ever getting a large increase in our plan’s costs, however the coverage has stayed as one of the best. Vacation accruals are the norm and the "banker" holidays make it even better. Every month food is brought it to celebrate birthdays and around most holidays there is some fun event that is planned out for the company. It gives it a real community feel that you don’t get at another place. With the understanding that parking in downtown West Chester can be a nightmare, the company also pays for your parking. As far as management goes, it may help to hear my story so far in this company. I was hired at a near entry level position, and due to managements mentorship, guidance, patience, and desire to see me grow, I have been promoted multiple times. I have worked at other companies where management just wants you to come in, shut up, and do your job and will never reward you for hard work and the desire to better yourself. Though I cannot speak to all the managers, that is not the case here. Management is willing to send you to job skill training or to conferences. They allow time for webinars and have college reimbursement, all in the name of helping you be better at your job. They understand that this ultimately helps both you and the company grow. Personally, management is always willing to engage in pleasant conversation, even at the CEO level. They will work with you to create reasonable project dates to help ensure that your quality of life, and that your home life balance is kept intact. They will hold everyone in your department accountable to ensure all employees are pulling their weight so not just the good employees drown. You can also sleep well knowing that the company takes its mission seriously and is doing a lot of good work out there. That doing things the right way is more important than taking shortcuts. I have worked at other companies, bigger corporations and smaller shops, but I can honestly say that this company treats its employees well. Everyone knows your name here and you feel like even though there is a job to do, most people care.

Cons

True there is no telecommute, but that isn’t a huge deal.

Pros

This organization has some very promising initiatives seeking to help law students and especially those underrepresented in the legal profession.

Cons

May be anecdotal, but I have not had a good experience with management. In some instances it may be inexperience and in others its seems there's a very top-down and lack of openness when it comes to giving and receiving feedback. I don't feel like the environment I work in is a place where I feel welcome to share my professional opinions or advice on an issue. Most decision are made before I have a chance to provide input.

Pros

Great mission. Unlike many other non-profits not dependent on grant funding. Good benefits, remote employment, decent co workers in the DC office.

Cons

Great mission wrong management team in place to carry out that mission. If you are a person of color wouldn't recommend that you make this your first choice. Very people on top management are people of color. Really toxic environment in the PA office. Cliquish, "mean girl" type atmosphere.
