The company pays salary based on 8 hours a day. They continually inspect your availability due to lack of trust. They knowingly short-staff the nurses so the job can't be done in 8 hours. I routinely work 14 hours a day... somethimes 16 just to keep up with the workload. They don't pay for the overcommitment nor do they recongize the need for more staff to balance the workload. It's not an environment of respect for the individual's doing the work.

AETNA is very tolerant of dishonest and underhanded business practices. The company's size may have a bearing on its disinterest in enforcing standards of morality and ethics, but this does not excuse AETNA's lack of concern for such things. There are simply to many examples to recount of duplicity and shadowy politics within this organization. If all one care's about is a paycheck, and has no issue remaining oblivious to what is going on around them, it is a decent place to work. If you have a functional conscience, working here may be tough. Additionally, it should be added that the company makes extensive use of contracted workers from external clients, and that these individuals are treated worse, perhaps, than second-class citizens. They are brought on and disposed of at will, often excluded from benefits or special considerations, and have no say within the organization. Financially, I'm sure this works out well for AETNA but, again, those with any sliver of empathy or a sense of values will have difficulties putting up with it.
