Pros

The company is engineering focus and changing really fast, it attracts engineers and talents who can adapt to changes, and can self-manage to get things done. You can always find new interesting things to work on. AfterShip set a very high bar on coding quality and engineering requirements, which I believe why the products are working well to be the top shipping and tracking APIs. The management has improved employee benefits, performance management and HR policy. I believe the company is moving in the right direction. Though the company has let go a number of people recently may cause the negative comments here, but i believe it is important to keep a high quality of employees who share strong values.

Cons

Things are changing fast and require employees to catch up fast as well. The company focus strongly on engineers and it is hard for one who doesnt know about engineering to join the team. If you're engineers who just want to focus on technology but ignore what users want or business needs, then AfterShip may not fit your expectation. Engineers need to work closely with product managers and have increasing influence on product direction. Company has recently removed the QA role and focus on automation testing, so engineers need to handle end to end testing before launching it to production, meaning engineers have to take full responsibility of their code and not rely on QA for manual testing. Some engineers like it, some dont - but i see the top startups no longer have the QA roles as well.

Thank you for your feedback. We have an awesome tech stack and have indeed set a very high bar for engineering skillset requirements as well as coding quality and will continue to strive for further improvements. We believe that with the help of Head of Engineering and Head of People (HR) - we will be even more successful and become even stronger by building a better company and future for AfterShip staff members. We believe every engineer should think beyond coding, not only should they be responsible for the software they build, from writing to testing through to deployment (and of course more testing!). All engineers at AfterShip are encourages to be business partners, to contribute in many ways, help create and adopt best practices to build on their expertise to help with AfterShip's success. AfterShip members came up with our 4 core values: Trust, Quality, Automation as well as staying hungry (one should always aim to improve personal & work life) and foolish (it is important to have fun!). We are also implementing sustainable recruitment, learning and development as well as knowledge sharing initiatives to encourage organic growth from within AfterShip .

Pros

Everyday is different so get to learn a lot, no limit to what I can do pro = a lot of flexibility, people are supportive, no blame culture even though I am junior and made a few mistakes, they encourage me to ask questions if unclear, I also always ask them for deadline as everything is urgent, the culture is open and they accept changes as long as I deliver the message nicely and dont sound like i am just complaining, people are friendly and dont get annoyed when i ask them questions, a lot of trust as can work from home sometimes and flexible working hours, my manager is very supportive mentors me and helps me filter requests

Cons

Everyday is different so get to learn a lot, no limit to what I can do con = very very fast paced, need a lot of energy to keep up, often i am very tired when I get home even if no OT, the do-list growing everyday and never ends so really really need to learn time managment prioritisation so I do not stress out, need to proactively give them updates otherwise they keep asking me ‘how is it going’ and I find it very annoying, the senior people always thinking of improvements so there is so much to do! I tried to not look at my phone after work otherwise the emails and telegram messages are nonstop! Learning is too slow cos i am too busy to know what other people do!

Pros

company is making money, int'l working environment, no micro-management because they don't care what time I go to work because of flexible working hours and I can work from home whenever I want, good coffee and big desks

Cons

Only have beer but no red wine, should offer more things like cup noodles & can soup. Co-founders always very busy so hard to catch them to have a chat
