Excellent environment, fast-paced place to learn and grow
Pros
Lots of comradery. Unique culture. Some of my best friends were my co-workers. I felt proud of my job at one of the top children's hospitals in the U.S. and enjoyed going to work each day. There is a willingness to listen - even by top physicians - to other employees' questions and input. Some say working with sick children would be depressing, but the environment here was always friendly and upbeat, and I worked on every floor and in every department.
Cons
There are many higher-paid upper management nurses who squander dollars by wasting time chit chatting in the hallways, putting on a show about "how much work they have to do" when if they would just stop gossiping and do their work, they wouldn't be at work so late. I personally shared an office with a nurse educator who was the biggest drain of Children's dollars I've ever witnessed. Constant doctors visits, countless surgeries and reasons to be away from work, while sucking on benefits and high-paid salary. Others under these types doing the grunt work and get none of the credit.
