We’re glad you find satisfaction and purpose in helping us fulfill our mission to provide care for the children and families we serve, but we’re disheartened that your overall experience here has not been positive. We believe Akron Children’s is a special place with a caring culture – and one that embraces diversity and inclusion. The concerns you’ve expressed are serious ones that we would welcome the opportunity to address, and we encourage you to call our confidential compliance hotline if you are not comfortable speaking directly with your manager or HR representative about them. As a current employee, you will find the number for this hotline on the Compliance-Helpline/Hotline page on our staff intranet myKidsnet.

Cons

Money and power hungry management Employees doing many jobs and getting underpaid We preach patient care being a priority, but the employees taking care of the patients are subject to verbal and emotional abuse Terrible compensation Management making decisions that negatively and directly impact the ones in the line of fire They lie about what your job will be to get you in the door Management within depts will give bad references to people trying to leave their dept so they have to stay

We recognize that staffing shortages at health care organizations across the country – including Akron Children’s – has placed a significant burden on our workforce. Our employees are the foundation of our organization and our culture, and we continue to be aggressive in taking measures to address this challenge and support our staff to ensure they can focus on our reason for being: our patients and their families. We’ve made substantial adjustments in compensation for numerous roles across the organization and will continue to review and adjust compensation in other areas to ensure we remain competitive in the marketplace. In September 2021, we launched a Helping Hands flexible staffing support program, which compensates employees for taking on additional duties in areas of most need, from support services to patient care. We now also offer sign-on bonuses for many roles. We understand some employees do have specific concerns about their department and/or their role, as you do, and we urge you to share those concerns via your manager, HR representative or Children’s confidential compliance hotline. By engaging in conversation, we’re better able to make changes where needed. We welcome the opportunity to work with you to address your concerns.
