Pros

Good science, access to high quality tools, great seminars and guests, good funding, pay for scientists is good (much better than a postdoc), most people are great to work with. Stated mission is fantastic and many people truly believe in what we are doing.

Cons

There is a lack of appreciation at all levels, and also pressure to work harder and longer hours even though current efforts are undervalued. Overall, there is a weird atmosphere with competition among leadership and between projects creating unnecessary conflict and tension. Priorities seem to be constantly in flux so that lots of effort goes into things that are not ultimately useful. Pay for RA's is unacceptably low.
