You work with at-risk and troubled youths, many of whom have fallen on the wrong side of the law and have been provided by courts or by their school districts an opportunity to resolve their behavioral problems before being piped into the school-prison pipeline.

Cons

Long hours, irregular hours. Due to lower wages, most folks seek out tremendous amounts of overtime. If it's still the same as it used to be, an Allendale week can last up to about 80 hours.

The staff are very committed to the children and it is encouraging to see and be a part of every day. The agency exceeds expectations in its compliance with state laws and informs the staff upon hire for what they need to know to perform well on the job.

Cons

Working around emotions can be challenging for support staff and direct care staff.
