Pros

My work partner is a canine.

Cons

MSA sends dogs and handlers out that are not "real world" ready. They also put young inexperienced Leads in place, what are self - centered and have little to no real K9 knowledge. Leads at MSA will find every opportunity to throw you under the bus to make themselves look good. MSA leadership lacks personal accoutability and integrity, with a few exceptions. Find a job elsewhere.

Pros

Job experience, and working with a K9

Cons

Far too many things are wrong with this company. First let’s start with the training received. The training is easy but too short to train K9 handlers in a mere 15 days. Also why aren’t the company policies discussed during training? Why don’t we receive first aid training for the K9? Or how to perform CPR on your K9? Next management will kick you off of work sites for saying no to them. Worked 60-70 hours already this week? Have childcare issues? They don’t care if they ask you to work and you say no you just painted a target on your back. They will kick you off permanent posts, they will change your schedule or shift, or not give you any hours at all. They will schedule you to work 100+ driving miles from where you live without any reimbursements for gas and toll. This is why the turnover rate for handlers is so high. This drew a red flag to me when even one of the trainers at the headquarters told me that too many handlers are resigning. Why? If everyone loves to work K9 and it’s an easy job why are people leaving? Simple because of management. People are starting to realize that for $27.75 an hour this job is not worth it. Scheduling will harass you with 10 phone calls a day to work on your days off and if you don’t answer then management will call you and threaten you. It is such an unprofessional workplace.
