Pros

Opportunities abound to learn and develop new skills. The organization runs lean and you will get cross trained with multiple different positions in the company. There are opportunities to mow globablly if you develop marketable skills. The company invests lots of money in employees through their back to basics program. The company strives to innovate and find new markets and products. The corporate culture emphasizes hospitality and customer service. If you enjoy a fast paced and dynamic environment the work days will fly by.

Cons

The company organizational structure is flat and confusingly structured. It is generally run with an atmosphere of fear. Fear that you will be replaced if you don't satisfy the shifting whims of the Lyon's, or one of the various corporate officers with ambiguous duties and roles. Despite constant internal communications of how profitable the company is pay increases are not consististant with company progress. Lack of a clear organizational structure tends to lead to peer who outrank others dumping work onto subordinates. The culture is one of fear that you will be eliminated if someone else knows how to do the job that you do. Good people seem to be fired inexplicably.

It's not what you know, it's who you know!

Pros

Talented people, nice surroundings, good work experience to move forward with your career. Good opportunities to travel and work abroad.

Cons

Impossible to make any real impact unless the company owner knows you personally. He has little interest in anyone outside of his inner circle. The political environment is cut throat with everyone scrambling for his attention. If you keep your head down and do a good job outside of the political warfare you are considered irrelevant within the organisation.

Pros

The biggest pro was the people: Alltech hires great employees and it's a very international team with people from different backgrounds. The hours are decent and the pay is OK, depending on your manager. You get opportunities to travel a bit and participate in a few Alltech functions. Overall a good company to work for a few years, but you need to play the political game very well to advance. It is a fun workplace overall and they have very nice offices. They trust their people and relations between managers and employees are fairly casual.

Cons

The culture is cult-like and doesn't allow for any questioning. You either drink the Kool-Aid or leave. The company was great a couple of years ago but now it's too focused on its acquisitions and on its annual Symposium, to the detriment of its people. There is no HR department or any structure whatsoever, which is starting to impact the company internally at this level. There is a very high turnover rate and some people get fired for no reason. The company does not invest much on its people or care for the employees, which is why a lot of people leave for competitors. They lack flexibility in terms of hours (you cannot be late by one minute, yet they never pay you for hours of overtime work and expect you to be reachable all the time) or working from home.
