An Absolute Cult

Pros

They used offer competitive compensation. It was the only thing keeping employees there. I've been told by a Store Leader who left recently, however, that wages/salaries... even of existing employees... we're recently slashed.

Cons

I could write a multi-volume book about this. They preach values and culture more than anyone I've worked for, yet, do nothing to champion a positive work environment. Many of their practices are completely backward and they think they're superior for going against the grain but really, a lot of it is just non-sensical. The CEO is an absolute narcissist who used to hold a weekly conference call so he could preach about his therapy sessions and inflate his ego. The District Managers I interacted with were like robots... everything black or white, condescending, everything by the book, entirely inflexible when when there was a business reason for something. For them, there was always one answer, and every question they asked was to lead you to adopt their perspective. I was routinely asked to make decisions that would have compromised my ethical standards. The secret shop tool there is used to instill fear in employees and as a disciplinary measure... I know a few excellent, talented managers who were let go because a mystery shopper wasn't offered a fitting room or greeted. The customer service model is counterproductive, antiquated and so, so extreme... the expectation is that you harass/heckle customers or you run the risk of a write-up. It was by far the least people-focused company I've ever worked for; there was no concen for morale, celebrating successes, or supporting or simply doing the right thing for your team. And the ones who are perpetuating all of this absolutely live and breathe AS... they're all in a bubble and it lent itself to being a most bizarre, cult-like experience for myself and upwards of 20 people I know who also parted ways with the company.

Worst/Toxic place to work

Pros

Pay was good but not after pay cuts put in place is almost at federal minimum wage.

Cons

The management has super high expectations for everyone below them while my store manager never made sales and was always in the office on the computer. Payroll was always lower than what was needed. Our store was always getting high scores on audits and secret shops and our manager took it as credit when she was brand new and not apart of it. They led you on to work your overtime off for no reward. Trying to move up required 4 interviews with different leadership and had no communication as to when I would hear back. All the while they hired someone else without letting me know they filled the position. They pressure you to buy the clothing and you cannot even where it to work with the new dress code.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We did implement adjustments in pay as opposed to eliminating positions due to challenges in the current economy. To clarify, the adjustments in pay are significantly higher than the Federal Minimum Wage of $7.25 per hour. We do have high expectations regarding the guest experience and we encourage our team to always keep the guest as our first priority. We're sorry you didn't feel the positive results were celebrated with the entire team, we will share this information with our leaders to ensure that we celebrate successes in an impactful way in the future. The lack of communication regarding your interview process is unfortunate and not a common practice. We will address this with our team and we will discuss the importance of meaningful conversations and follow up during the interview process for future candidates.

Pros

You meet outstanding intelligent retail managers who deserve better

Cons

After more than a decade that was the worst work experience of my life. The CEO is rude and often angry and has long emotional company wide calls about how we’re not doing enough meanwhile you haven’t seen and spent time with your family in months. The expectation is that you live in your store. DMs writing you up for secret shoppers or for things they don’t even hold themselves accountable to. Never enough hours for the tasks scheduled in addition to things thrown at you last second due to corporates poor planning and buying. This company sells you a dream and takes your soul. Find yourself a job that makes you happy and develops you, don’t fall for their salary it’s not worth your well being.
