Pros

Your Co-workers become your friends and they are truly good people who were dooped just as you were. The pay is really good for just working at a clothing store. The clothes are really cute, but everyone on here is right, they fall apart. There have been several complaints where customers have returned items because of the quality, or it fell apart after one wash or one time wearing the item (this includes jeans, jewelry, shirts, dresses) All of these have come back MULTIPLE TIMES with the same or similar defects. It smells pretty good in the store. It's essentially a really expensive Forever 21 (some people thrive in Chaos) The titles look great on your resume and if you're into marketing, you will learn a lot about metrics. But you will need prayer to make it 6 months without issue.

Cons

The management can be belittling, degrading, and unfair. The schedule changes often without notice. The dress code changes to exclude whatever you currently have on that shift, but only for certain people. Any free time you have outside of work is time you could and should be spending at Altar'd State. The workload is unevenly distributed among the staff. There is nowhere to go for help. The harassment tip line is out of service and has been for almost 6 months (if not longer). Customer service puts you in touch with another number that is also out of service. IF YOU ARE JEWISH, MUSLIM, SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST, MENNONITE, JEHOVA'S WITNESS, OR YOU BELIEVE IN PUTTING GOD BEFORE ANYONE OR ANYTHING, THIS IS NOT THE JOB FOR YOU. You will be made into an outsider. Making daily profit margins has to be number one in your life. Your faith and beliefs are tested everyday. Be prepared to lay to rest your core values and pick up Altar'd States values. They DO NOT like it when people work more than one job and will harass you with your schedule to let you know they do not like you having another job or obligation you hold dearer than Altar'd State. (I.e. deliberately only scheduling you for one day a week even though your available for 5 while being short staffed and behind, to show they don't really want you around anymore -True story) You cannot suggest additional employment to anyone currently working with the company and in need of extra income. You WILL get into trouble, trust me. The racks are so full of product that 80% of them are broken. Not only is nothing ever done to fix this, but more and more shipment is brought out daily to add to the overflow. No one cares about the sale room or the fact that some people cannot afford $50 for a band Tee. If you are shopping in the clearance, you are less than and not worth the attention of the staff who could be helping people willing to buy full priced items (True story). You are taught not to meet the needs of the customer, but the needs of the business. I.e. force people through manipulation and dishonesty to buy more than they need or buy things they don't want to meet sales projections. I've seen people refused water breaks, bathroom breaks, and lunch breaks (myself included). I've watched coworkers FORCED to stay later than their shift. That's right FORCED.

Pros

Nothing but fake people in HO

Cons

This company refuse to pay my missing wages after emails sent and ignored. Who does that? What a greedy company. Just found out that the company received 5 million in ppp money but our salaries were cut 10% for almost a year. This is completely unethical. Looks like the money was used to open more stores, spend money on a terrible pos system, ship from store and a worthless rewards program. Home office never takes responsibility for anything. They say just work through it. I’ve never worked for a retail company like this before. They work you to the bone for no reason. They once made clean our stores from top to bottom with no extra hours. Then got upset because other tasks were not done on time. The CEO speaks so highly about prayer and doing the right thing but turns around and drops F bombs on company conference calls and try’s to convince you that you are in a cult because all your friends are your race. This company also uses one black man to portray the inclusive nature of the company. That same man told me that I wasn’t a successful person because I hadn’t become a DM within 4 years. That was the rudest thing a grown man that knows nothing about me ever said to my face. Meanwhile people were losing jobs in Tennessee but they decided to hire a member of the home office’s grandchild to package boxes to customers. This company screams greed and false claims. If your store is not in the top they will find a reason to blame everything on the SL rather than helping the store become successful. Prior retail companies I worked for like Express, Gap, and Francesca’s trained their people and actually cared about their growth. People retire from these companies for a reason. Many complaints are made and HR does nothing unless it involves failing stores. Everyone does not get the same treatment. It is a common theme for black women to be accused of having a “tone”. How is is that multiple previous store leaders have said the same thing. From Georgia all the way to Texas. If you don’t look a certain way or act a certain way, you will not be included and made to feel like something is wrong with you. “She’s been getting away with it” is the words RM like to use. They talk about you right in your face. DMs consistently have TBs just to say “it’s your TB, talk to us”. But you are my leader. You should come prepared to help me with business if I’m having a tough time. Have you ever thought for a moment GPTW survey also reflects DMs and home office? I got torn apart for having the lowest score in the company because I told my team that it’s in regards to the company. Not me. Your company caused a lot of trauma and pain in my life. My advice is to truly look at what’s going on. Learn from the companies who are doing great. Stop trying to get rid of the problem and actually dig deep and fix it.

Pros

Great discount, beautiful product, faith based

Cons

I’ve been the Visual ASM for over a year. There is no training for this job. You might get bits and pieces but don’t expect any time spent with you to grow you. The company is only 10 years old- they have a lot of growing to still do. Upper management and home office are unorganized. For example, we just got Loss Prevention 2 months ago. This company has unrealistic expectations for everything: payroll, sales plan, and floorset. The salary is some of the lowest in the industry and the workload far exceeds what you’re paid. You have 2 DIstrict Mananagers.. My experience is that mine do not communicate well with eahother and do not have the same vision so it makes being productive and successful difficult due to one dm saying one thing and the other changing it. District Managers are not encouraging even if you have done what they have asked they say it has opportunity. Bonuses are paid quarterly if you make sales plan and aren’t even half of one weeks pay. During your interview your STore manager and DIstrict manager will say that the reviews on here are not accurate and that the company has taken a new path and working out kinks but it is not true. Stay away.
