Pros

1% of all proceeds are given to adopt orphans in Peru 10% of proceeds go to local charity Prayer book in fitting rooms Paid community service Christian music Great peer group, you'll meet your bff here. Creativity allowed around merchandising.

Cons

Do not let the family atomosphere or Christian environment fool you. This is how they suck you in. You have an amazing interview with your DM who tells you how great it is to work for a company that gives back and places high values in world class customer service. They tell you how you get to be your own 'business owner' through your visual merchandising skills and execution. Do not buy into this like I did. My mama warned me, and oh how I wish I had listened. Horrible, horrible absolute worst experience I've ever had in my professional career. There is no work life balance. The 45 hr minimal work week is a JOKE. I regularly put in 60 hours, and 72+ during the holidays, Windows, Mark downs, floor sets, or when executive visits are coming. (So about every other week) I cannot stress enough how little executives value their managers. In a meeting with all store managers and DMs present, the CEO PROMISED a better work life balance. This was a lie. Come January, all store hours were cut so drastically there wasn't enough coverage to have 2 people on the floor while the doors were open. All salaried managers were expected to pick up the slack that month. If you're salaried, then you can forget ever having a day off. It rarely happens. Your day off consists of calls from the store, your dm, a conference call or two, recruiting, interviewing candidates, emails, and probably going in for Mark-downs because well, let's face it, you're free labor. The quality of the clothing is awful and mark up is embarrassingly high. I've stopped funneling money into this company because even with my discount, the quality isn't worth it. The buyers have no clue what they're doing because half of them have never held this type of role before. We constantly receive an excessive amount of nearly identical styles and are expected to sell thru. Most of the corporate team is severely inexperienced, and as a result mistakes are made regularly and stores and salaried managers suffer the consequences. Don't even get me started on allocations. Merchandise is sent blindly. Florida stores can't sell coats in the winter any better than the Ohio stores can sell swim in the winter. There is NO training. I was left alone on opening day; brand new, never trained, untrained team and no managers. This is no exaggeration, my team didn't even know how to use the registers! I was expected to run, train and staff a brand new store with no knowledge of the business or its practices BY MYSELF. Hours into opening day I was tossed the store keys and told good luck. Corporate sets unreal expectations with very little labor to accomplish the tasks and when it's not done, or not done perfectly, you get chastised. Seriously people, don't drink the kool-aid. You're better off settling in with a local cult than being employeed here. Run away. run fast, and run far.

Pros

Mission Mondays, we give back 10% of our sales to local charities in need for every other month. The product is always super cute!

Cons

Management is passive aggressive. You work 45 plus hours each week. Discount is ok, but for girls who only make a little more than minimum wage, the clothes are still super expensive. They want us to wear the brand but don't offer enough pay to take the blow for the amount of money it takes to buy one outfit. You are expected to run the store on minimal payroll and literally managers are running it 24/7 and doing all the responsibilities we rely on our associates to do. It DRAINS you. I am in school and trying to work here 45 plus hours a week. There is no work/life balance and you never get a weekend off. Other management is always wanting to SELL SELL SELL. I'm all for making sales goals but i'm not going to shove a pair of shoes in a customers face to buy or even an apparel item. Just an awful place to work and they don't appreciate all the hard work and constant hours you give. ALSO you only receive a 30 minute break no matter how many hours you work that day. I've worked 12 hours with only 30 minutes to eat. Talk about DRAINING.

Pros

You can move up fast and use as a great learning tool.

Cons

When I first entered Altar'd state I was excited. I heard about the Faith Base atmosphere and how the company "gives" back. Going in to this job, I didn't read any of the glass door comments because I solely believe in innocent until proven guilty. I like to make my own opinion. Now, I see what EVERYONE is talking about. First off, I was told from my DM about the SM position. At first I didn't want to take it because it was far of a drive. But she assured me this is the way to move up in the company. I began to realize they needed me at that store because no one wanted it. The people who were hired before I got there had zero to little work ethic experience. It made it difficult to "train" or "coach" a staff who honestly just wanted a discount. Also, by the time I got there this store had gone through I don't know how many managers. Yes, the turn over rate is high!! Some of the associates used to be managers but because of how drained they were as managers they stepped down. I can say this company does OVER work you. Your typical day off is messages from your DM, or messages from your DM while you're driving to work. As a SM you are constantly looked at to work like a Hebrew slave. Your associates can have off but NO not the SM. The deserving SM who puts all of her work and even forgets her life, doesn't get any time off. You have to go through hell and back just to get two days in a row off. Then you're doing floor sets which last 24 hours really. Everything is all in the same day. Markdowns and movement of the floor. It's like why not have one week of markdowns, then the next of a floorset. Then don't talk about the holidays...as an SM you have to work 6 days a week before and during Christmas week lol. You're already working 45 hours, now lets add on another day, plus the hours the center/mall has for you, then the labor work,...you're working 60 plus hours during the holiday. It's sad really. Aaron the CEO sent out a message to say "not many people are able to spend time with their family on Christmas, so be thankful". It is great to spend time with family on the Holidays. However, don't come off as if your workers are ungrateful and I guess I give them this day off sense of attitude. We work HARD. I have met Aaron and he didn't come off as butt like most stated. However, I can tell EVERYONE including his corporate team walks on egg shells around him and it makes the visit less exciting. It's like they don't know how to talk to him and if they say one "wrong" thing he'll come bite them like a snake. It just makes the visits depressing really. Then, there are retail companies who work their SM only 40 hours a week and 5 days during the Holidays. Then the pay is not where it should be for anyone. My DM told me corporate said people are leaving because of "training". that's not why this company has high turn over rates. This company is turning over due to these three things: Overworked, Not valued, low balled pay. A person will stay if not trained to LEARN MORE if you show your support, give better pay for their WORTH, and allow people to make mistakes and grow.
