Pros

Employee Discount was great (and has apparently gone up), general tasks on the job (merchandising, helping customers) were LOTS of fun

Cons

Upper management had major issues while I was there, LOTS of pushy sales tactics that we had to answer for constantly, required to stay 2 hours past closing even if there wasn't the workload to justify the payroll waste. It's definitely understandable for retail businesses to have sales goals, but there's a way to push for those without feeling like we're being pushy. I felt the whole time like we were playing this super-friendly role and pretending to be the customer's best friend, but VERY obviously as a means to an end. I also felt like when my store had a vacancy in management, there were many keyholders who would have been VERY qualified to step up to the position, but they were all passed over in favor of an outside hire.

Pros

Employee discount was nice for what it was.

Cons

Management was very quick to play favorites. If you didn’t fit the perfect Altar’d State image, you were treated so different. My store manager would hold things over our heads in order to be told things. There’s no work and life balance . You’re expected to basically live in the store.

Pros

Good discount, decent pay, creative job

Cons

Pay doesn't equate to the difficulty of work, focuses on sales but doesn't pay commission, overworking staff, then cutting hours out of nowhere
