Learned A Lot

Pros

Tested every bit of my technical proficiency Offered many opportunities to make a difference Quality people throughout the IT organization, from service desk up to the CIO himself

Cons

Culture was a bit rough to navigate and highly resistant to the much needed adjustments in process procedure and technology. As with any organization redefining itself, problems exist and are well hidden.

Stepping Stone

Pros

You can learn a lot - many of the people within the organization are skilled or uniquely talented. Many of the technologies Amtrust has now incorporated (VSTS, move towards DevOps pipelines) are a valuable learning experience.

Cons

Leadership is lacking - if you want to learn what not to do as a leader, this is a great place to do it. If you can withstand lackluster or even incompetent leadership, you can get by here. You would not strive or grow professionally, but you can learn quite a lot.

Pros

Lots of time off, WFH 3 days per week

Cons

Management is horrible at branch level. Unsure if it goes above that, doesn’t seem to be since other offices are way less restrictive and actually trust their people to do the job they were hired for. WFH is threatened regularly. Everything is a threat. There is no positive feedback at all. Your files are severely micromanaged from multiple people. All the monthly audits done are completely subjective and unfair, yet performances and raises are based on them. There is no straight forward performance objectives. They are up for interpretation and dependent on who is reviewing your file and can be biased. Policies change weekly so no one knows what to do anymore and no one seems to care. Everyone is unhappy and looking for employment elsewhere.
