High Pay Can’t Compensate for Toxic Culture and Lack of Representation

Pros

The pay was competitive but that is all

Cons

There was a clear lack of minority representation, which was evident and disappointing for those who value a diverse work environment. The office culture was highly competitive and adversarial, with a hostile mentality that permeated interactions. It wasn’t uncommon to feel targeted or undermined, even by those outside of your department, leading to a toxic atmosphere. I experienced a lack of inclusivity and microaggressions during interactions with some coworkers, which created an unwelcoming environment. This significantly impacted my comfort level at work and ultimately led me to avoid engaging with certain colleagues. The company initially offered work-from-home (WFH) flexibility, which helped to mitigate some of the cultural issues. However, the decision to revoke WFH without a clear explanation created additional stress and dissatisfaction. It felt as though the preferences of certain employees were prioritized over broader employee well-being. There seemed to be a strong prevalence of hiring through personal connections, with little emphasis on building a diverse workforce. It contributed to a homogenous culture that may not appeal to those who are looking for a more inclusive and progressive workplace. Staffing issues were persistent throughout my time there. The team was consistently understaffed, which negatively impacted productivity and morale.
