Pros

AEP had good job security AEP had good retirement benefits. AEP had a very positive shift to remote work and response to COVID-19

Cons

Lots of changes in the AEP IT department, the new senior management is changing too many things at once. First they did a re-org and now there's limited growth opportunities for promotions for existing employees. A lot of people with valuable technical skills are jumping ship before positions are co-sourced (outsourced). Too much job instability for a company where the primary reason many people join is for a 20+ career. Not enough growth opportunities now that upper management has slashed promotions and limited personal career growth. Too many pay grades, my previous job before AEP only had three grades, now there's 6 grades and with limited promotions it will keep you at a lower level for longer unless you leave to another company. You pretty much will have to wait for someone to retire, die, or leave the company before you will get promoted now. Culture in IT is very slow to change for an 100+ year old company. You'll often hear the phrase "that's the way AEP does it or has done it." This makes it very difficult for senior management to find value in new technology when it takes 10+ years for them to move on anything.

Pros

Decent pay, decent benefits, great immediate supervisor

Cons

Middle management is clueless. They give us deadlines, we work out hind end off to get there but fail because we don't have enough resources, no one notices then they give us more deadlines. Work load is INSANE! Would like to know why some business areas are allowed to telecommute while others aren't???

Pros

I would say the best thing about working there was the pay.

Cons

The company has absolutely no diversity so they mistreat anyone who is different, meaning not Caucasian. My supervisor was disrespectful, marginalized me daily and even threatened me. They boast that 'culture' is one of the pillars of the company but I guess that only applies the certain groups of people. If you are a person of color or have any differences (sexual orientation or religion) this is not the place to work. It is not an inclusive work environment.
