Pros
You get to work with many great people who care about their work and the mission. Planning is a broad field, so the exposure to the various specialties and avenues of growth within it is valuable. APA can be a good stepping stone to a range of other career paths.
Cons
Room for growth is limited in terms of management roles. However, there are opportunities to network and learn from many people - staff, members, and partners. Because planning is so broad, the organization is often scattered and unfocused, attempting to be do many things and as a result none of them really well. However, there is acknowledgement and some evidence of change in addressing this challenge.
